Resource Security

Resource security refers to a state in which a country or region has sustainable, stable, timely, adequate and economical access to requisite natural resources and resource products, and the capability to maintain a sustained state of security. Resource security, which supports other fields of national security, is a cross-regional and strategic issue that affects the economic and social development of a country.

Abuse and overexploitation of resources are major causes of damage to the ecological environment. The lack of resources or disruption of supply will seriously affect economic development and people's livelihood. Therefore, we must ensure resource security.

The country is promoting the strategy of resource conservation and mass utilisation on all fronts, insisting on green development, making good use of domestic and foreign markets and resources to ensure the sustainable, reliable and effective supply of resources required for economic and social development.

Hong Kong is actively engaged in various aspects to safeguard national resource security. It advocates saving and reducing the waste of water, electricity, gas, etc. in daily work and life, practicing green and low-carbon travel to minimise the consumption of energy resources such as petroleum, and starting from small matters in our lives to support resource security.
