On 1 July 2015, the National Security Law of the people's Republic of China was adopted at the 15th Session of the Standing Committee of the 12th National people's Congress, and 15 April each year was designated as the National Security Education Day, which aims at raising public awareness of national security, creating a positive atmosphere of safeguarding national security and enhancing the capacity to fend off national security risks.
The Law of the people's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region took effect on 30 June 2020.
